Physical Activity: Low to Medium. We will experience longer days as well as limited walking.
The west coast of Florida in March is a ground zero for bird photography. In March the birds are in breeding plumage and are quite approachable and easy to photograph. We may visit several other sites based on information based on birding hot spot information at the time.
- N. Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge
- Greater Fort Meyers Beach area birding hot spots
- Cape Coral (Burrowing Owls)
- Venice Rookery
- Myakka River State Park
- Sunset locations
In addition to above locations, there are several other sites that we will visit base on information of bird hot spots in March. You can expect to photograph a variety of species including roseate spoonbills, burrowing owls, great egrets, snowy egrets, herons, ibis, terns, plovers, oystercatchers, osprey, pelicans, wood storks, ducks. Also there are plenty of Alligators and mammals to photograph.
We will be traveling to locations that offer great opportunities for photographing landscapes. If the weather is with us we may have morning fog creating intriguing landscapes.
We will maximize our time in the field up early back late. At each location we will offer instructions for subjects and photographic conditions. There will be time each day for critiques, and photographic discussion.

- Camera, memory cards, extra batteries & chargers
- A range of lenses wide angle (landscapes), standard, and, telephoto & super-telephoto zoom
- Tripod/monopod
- Filters Polarizers and Neutral Density filters (optional)
- Cable release
Dan Shoots with Canon and Fuji. Tom shoots with Nikon and Pentax. Between the two of us we can solve most camera setting issues.
Travel information
We will be starting our workshop in the Fort Meyers are and ending in Venice/Sarasota area. Please plan your flight arrival before 1pm on Wednesday March 11th. The closest airport for the start of the workshop is Ft Meyers. We will make one airport run at 1PM to pick up attendees. If you arrive outside the pick time you will need to get a Taxi, Uber or Lyft to the hotel.
We will be completing our workshop on Sunday mid-morning in the Venice / Sarasota area. Depending on which airport you plan to fly out you may need additional time get to the airport. You can do a round trip for Fort Meyers (RSW), however this airport is about 90 minutes from where we will be ending our Workshop. Sarasota/Bradenton is about 30 minutes from where we end our workshop. Departure should be sometime late afternoon or early evening. If a group is going to the airport around the same time we will drop you off.
Hotel information
Two good hotel choices in North Fort Meyers are the Travel Lodge North Fort Meyers, and the Econo Lodge North Fort Meyers bot on Rt 41. This is start point of each day.
